And, in the words of John Lennon, what have you done?
If you’re part of Community Lives Consortium, you’ve done plenty.
It’s 33 years since this organization was founded. Delivering services under contract with Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Councils, the CLC aims to help people live successful lives in the community. At their recent Annual General Meeting, it was clear how far and how admirably they succeeded in 2022.
Service users across Swansea localities in Cwmbwrla and Landore, Mynyddbach and Penderry, Fforestfach, Fairwood, Sketty and West Cross are not only supported but respected. Decisions about which activities to pursue and which types of care are appropriate are taken in partnership with the users. This same principle applies in Neath Port Talbot networks covering Pontardawe, Neath, Briton Ferry, Aberavon and Margam. At the AGM, Chief Executive Rick Wilson’s annual report to members was punctuated by videos of service users whose lives have been transformed by the coffee mornings, arts and crafts activities, walking groups and lunch clubs that are tailor-made for enjoyment and empowerment.
When asked what could be done to improve the service, users spoke with one voice. More staff, please. CLC staff and managers do an outstanding job, and the people they support would, understandably, like more of the same.
As always, Rick Wilson and his team are listening. The Community Lives Consortium are currently recruiting for Support Workers, and welcome applications from anyone seeking full-time or part-time work. What applicants will need to bring to the table is a positive, caring and respectful approach to the adults whose lives they’ll influence. If that sounds like you, there’s more information here.
Members of the Community Lives Consortium team will enjoy this Christmas in the certain knowledge that they made a positive difference to people’s lives in 2022. If you’d like to share that same job satisfaction in 2023, why not get in touch?
